I bought this for myself and love it to bits. My husband uses it too and we have bought some more games and hopefully can get our children aged 42 and 35 to show us over Christmas how to play them.

 "over60s review" 2009-12-16
By Ms. V. D. Woolcock (devon, england)
The nintendo ds lite is good but as yet I only have the brain training and Mahjong games. The brain training is very repetitive and all that slows one down is the accidental touches on the screen and the fact it sometimes does not recognise the letters one writes. eg the difference between i and l or H and k. Also I have yet to get it to understand my speech and thus now always have to tell it I cannot speak. The mahjong game is OK once one gets used to the small screen and for my purpose I am satisfied. I am waiting for Father Christmas to come and hope he brings me a new game to try

I purchased this item on behalf of my Gran so she could give it to my Grandad for christmas. my grandad found it thinking it was for one of the grankids and thought he should 'test it' first. He has subsequently become hooked and my Gran has ended up giving it to him early as he cant put it down. Thanks for keeping his mind sharp and his brain active.

I really like it, but only 2 games so far I am glad I purchased - the Professor Layton one, which I loved, and the scrabble. I find the Brain train disappointing and other items rather childish.

You can use this handy device how you like it - for games or for educational purposes or both. We bought this mainly for the brain training 'game' which is living up to its name for all the family.

Highly recommended for young and old.

"Take anywhere fun for any age" 2009-12-17
By S. Atkins (SouthWest England)
I got a Nintendo DS last year and loved it. Unfortunately so did my dad! So much so that I bought him his own DSi for his recent birthday.

I'm in my 20s and he's in his 50s but we can both spend hours on the thing; it certainly isn't just for children.

It is easy to operate and despite the various clever functions you don't need to use these if you like to keep things simple.

It's small enough to carry with you anywhere and I've found the battery lasts hours, particularly if you have the screen brightness on a lower setting.

Whatever your age and gaming experience (neither of us had any before) the Nintendo is a must-have for any household.

By Prem (Birmingham)
This is a review by my 6yr old son but typed by me. This is a really good coloured Dsi console, I have decorated my Dsi, you can take photos, record songs and record your voice. You can doodle your photos by going to the album and choosing a photo by pressing edit, then there will be distortion, grafitti, colour, coloured pad, mischief, merge, resemblence and frame.

A very good colour for a Dsi.

"It's great but there is another version" 2009-12-05
By Peter Land (swuk)
Our two boys got one each, one light blue and one white. Both were the same price, but the blue one I have since found out is a later version released in late November. The blue one arrived with additional software installed 'Web access' and 'Flip note'.

I have been assured by Nintendo that apart from that both are identical and I have downloaded the above two downloads for free from the Nintendo shop.

Apart from that, this is a big step up from the DS consoles they had before and they have not been put down yet!

 "Good Fun For Everyone" 2009-12-15
By DL Productions UK (Merseyside, UK)
I'm quite new to the Wii, so when I saw the steering wheel and Mario Kart Wii in the bundle my step father got, I had to give it a go.

All the Mario characters are here, including Big Bertha and Wario, and I like the fact you can now transform into Big Bertha during the race as a sort of auto-pilot, this bullet shaped character with a big smile whizzing around the screen is funny, how ever old you are.

There are plenty of silly power ups too, like the oil all over an opponent's screen; miniaturising the opponents, and of course, the speed up icons. I also like throwing shells, bananas and other bits and bobs around.

I also like the way you can race as your Mii, this is fun and adds more personality to the game, rather than you emulating Mario or any of the other 12 characters.

The big selling point for this game has to be the wheel, just slip in your Wii controller into the wheel and you're in a kart shooting up the lane - this really appealed to me as it feels really realistic, and as I'll never drive this is pretty much close to karting fun I can have, so it's a real bonus to have motion sensory, and adds another dimension to the game play.

I would highly recommend this to anyone, as it's fun, childish and worth a go. Plus you can use this wheel for F1 games and other fun stuff, so it's not just for Mario. It reminds me of the N64 days with my mate, and enjoying the world of Mario Kart.

By E. S. M. Campbell (Scotland)
I bought this game for my 4-year old grandson to play on the Wii, hoping that it would get him off his DS Lite. Initially he appeared to get involved and liked it, so I bought another Wii Wheel to allow me to join in. When it came he rather reluctantly agreed to allow me to play. However, it didn't take long for him to become bored and pack it in. Now, I am the only one who plays the game. I find it good fun and sufficiently demanding to maintain my interest. Unfortunately though, it does have to get switched off when my grandson visits!

"Possibly the greatest race game ever if not the greatest game!" 2009-11-26
By Mr. Suchet Budon
I have been addicted to the Mario Kart series of games since the Super Nintendo version in the 1990s - This Wii edition of the game takes elements from all the previous versions as well as providing one of the best online gaming environments ever for a game.

The new motion controls are excellent - as well as providing support for GameCube controls and other control systems you choose.

You can take part in competitions and events online through the Mario Kart Channel - which gives the game even more longevity. There are a mass of bonuses and vehicles which you discover as you progress and the game is so addictive.

You can also race with people online from all over the world at any time of the day. It has an excellent scoring system so as to have you playing with players that match your skill level (no unfair races here!)

You will be playing this one for years and years - It is brilliant!

Its one of my all time favourite games - up there with the classics.

In a nutshell:
As if the idea of five games in one package didn't sound a good enough deal on its own the Wii's best multiplayer compendium comes free with the console.

The lowdown:
Clearly realising that they need to provide some quick and obvious reasons why the Wii Remote is such a good idea Nintendo have packed in this compilation with the console, which includes simple versions of tennis, golf, baseball, bowling and boxing. The four player tennis game is the obvious stand out as you swing the Remote exactly as you would a real tennis racket, with the game seeming to almost magically interpret your movements into the game. All the other games work in a similar way, as you hold the Remote like a golf club or ready it like a baseball bat - you can even use it to gently roll bowling bowls and add some subtle aftertouch. The graphics make be purposefully basic but these are the games to instantly prove why the Wii is going to be such a revolution.

Most exciting moment:
While even Wii Tennis can be played with very minor movements of the Wii Remote the boxing game actively encourages you to act things out properly. You hold up both the Remote and the nunchuck to simulate your two hands and then duck and weave as you switch between trying to pummel your opponent and dodging or blocking their own attacks.

Since you ask:
You can use your own customised Mii Channel character in any of the games for that personal touch. The idea was originally just a joke featuring caricatures of Nintendo's top brass for a press conference, but it proved so popular that Nintendo ensured anyone could make their own character to play with.

The bottom line:
Five of the best games on the Wii and they all come free with the console!-HARRISON DENT

Manufacturer's Description:

Nintendo's Wii video game system (pronounced "we") is designed to attract people, regardless of their age or video game experience, to sit down and play together--whether they're in the same room or on different sides of the globe. The system's name reflects this simple idea. It's easily pronounced in a variety of languages, and the distinctive spelling suggests two players side by side. The two Wii features Nintendo thinks will create new levels of gaming community are built-in Wi-Fi access, supported by a new online gaming service, and Wii's intuitive, wireless, motion-sensitive game controller.

image1

Media bay accepts both Wii and GameCube discs

As with every new console release, much of the buzz surrounds the specs. The system boasts 512 MB of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports, and a slot for SD memory expansion. Wii's technological heart -- a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway" and a graphics chipset from ATI code-named "Hollywood" -- are said to deliver stunning performance. Instead of a tray, Wii uses a single, self-loading media bay that will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system, as well as Nintendo GameCube discs.
The real revolution in this system, though, is its controller, called the Wii Remote. Shaped like a TV remote, it's been designed to be easily used by beginners and pros alike. Sensors determine the Wii Remote's position is in 3-D space, which means that racing-game steering and a tennis swing, for example, are done through movements of your hand rather than by just your thumbs. What's more, a tiny speaker built into the Wii Remote promises some interactive surround sound experiences. The controller also has a force feedback "Rumble" feature and an expansion port for use with accessories, such as the Nunchuck, which adds an analog thumbstick and trigger buttons. An adapter that fits over the Wii's wee remote will be available for those who prefer the feel of a traditional controller. The Wii Remote communicates via the Bluetooth wireless standard. Up to four remotes can connect to Wii.

image2

image3

A classic-style controller will also be available

Wii offers superb backward compatibility -- the cornerstone of Nintendo's all-access approach. This new console will play fan-favourite games from Nintendo's 20-year-old library. The drive is compatible with GameCube discs, and select Nintendo titles from the original NES of the 1980s all the way through the Nintendo 64 will be available through for download through the Virtual Console. As if that weren't enough, the Virtual Console will also make available a few titles from SNES console contemporaries, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx 16.
Several new titles have been confirmed for Wii, including Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, as well as Square Enix's Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.

A number of Wi-Fi-enabled titles are in development that will employ Nintendo's newly-announced wireless gaming service, WiiConnect24. This worldwide network promises Nintendo players a comfortable, inviting environment in which they can gather and compete. The always-on network will deliver game updates and surprises, even when the Wii is powered down. And as you would expect, Wii will be able to communicate with the Nintendo DS mobile gaming system wirelessly.

The Wii console will revolutionise how people play games. But more importantly, it will entice new players into the world of video games by offering a variety of entertainment, information and communication Channels that add value to the console and make it a device that the entire family can enjoy. The Wii Channel Menu will be the first screen shown on the television, as it easily integrates itself as part of people’s everyday lives.

Disc Channel: This channel allows users to play either Wii game discs or the entire library of Nintendo GameCube discs.

Mii Channel: Fun caricatured portraits created in this channel can be used as characters across a variety of Wii software. Portraits can be stored in a user’s Wii Remote and taken to a friend’s house to play on another Wii console. Each member of the family can have his or her Wii Remote personalized with a caricature.

Photo Channel: This channel allows users to take digital pictures stored on an SD memory card and display them on their television screens. Users also can manipulate the photos in a variety of fun and creative ways, such as zooming or creating mosaics, puzzles or slide shows. They can draw, add stamps, and copy and paste. They also can change the "mood" of photos by brightening them, converting them to monochrome, inverting the colour or changing them to stark black and white. Users can even add an MP3 tune to their slide shows. It provides a fun and easy outlet for people to edit their digital pictures. Users also can send their pictures to other Wii consoles by attaching a photo to the Wii Message Board.

Forecast Channel: Users who have connected their Wii console to the Internet can access free local weather forecasts just a few seconds after turning on the Wii console. The WiiConnect24 service automatically updates local weather information. Users can view forecasts for cities around the world on a 3-D globe.

News Channel: Users can access breaking news with the touch of a button. When connected to the Internet, the WiiConnect24 service automatically updates this free channel and organizes it in a variety of topical categories. Users can see where news is happening by viewing the location of news stories on a 3-D globe.

Wii Shop Channel: This is where users go to buy Wii Points or redeem them to download classic video games to the Virtual Console. Users also can use points to download the Opera browser used in the Internet Channel.

Internet Channel: This channel dramatically changes the relationship between a user’s home, the television and the Internet. Users download the Opera browser with Wii Points. Then they can surf the Internet right from the comfort of their couch. They can do quick research while watching a television program ("What was that actor’s name again?"). Or book travel plans and shop during commercials. The service is compatible with Macromedia Flash.

Wii Message Board: Forget hand-scrawled notes tacked to the refrigerator door. Users can leave messages for other family members on a calendar-based message board. They also can use WiiConnect24 to send messages to people outside the home as well. Even better, people can trade photos and text messages with cell phone users. The service also allows for incoming messages targeted at software, such as a new map or weapon for a game. Games can constantly be updated, thereby extending their playability.

Wii (pronounced 'we') is Nintendo's new home video game console that represents a radical step into a new era of entertainment. For years, video games have been growing in popularity but also in complexity. With Wii, Nintendo changes the way you play by maximising the fun and minimising the fuss. The Wii console makes you feel less like a player and more like you're in the game. Frenzied sword battles are no longer confined to pushing a button. With Wii's unique Wii Remote controller, Nintendo puts you in the middle of the action. Forget about pushing a button to start a golf backswing. Wii lets you swing the club! Don't push a button to swing a sword, actually swing the sword. Video games have always been a part of you, now you get to be a part of them. Step up to the next level of gaming. Over time, gaming has become overwhelming to people. The Wii console returns gaming to simpler times while innovating game development at the same time. The unique Wii Remote gives parents and grandparents a chance to play games with their children. It gives gamers and traditional non-gamers a chance to share the same experiences in this new generation of gaming. For those who grew up with video games, Wii shows that games have not outgrown them.

The wii is a completely overated next gen console!!!!

When you first get the wii it will be fantstic for the first few weeks

but then it will get very boring. All the games are quite fun but

they all get very samey. When the good games come to the wii the

gameply and graphics seem to drop all for the motion sensors.

So overall the wii is very overated and will get boring!!!

 "Greatest games console EVER" 2007-12-24
By Top Cat (Somewhere in England, apparently)
Nintendo couldn't have designed the Wii better, along with how it is presented. I didn't even realise I was about to open it when it arrived one morning, the packaging is so compact! The console itself is a technological achievement - Nintendo have designed a machine that boasts 4x the graphics power of the Gamecube, with built in Wi-Fi, backwards compatability for 6 other consoles, room for 4 Gamecube controllers, 2 memory cards, SD card compatability, and more in the space of 3 DVD cases... Not only this but since the original release, I have now updated my system's software up to 3.1E, with extra channels, and all for 179.99?

This is where the Playstation 3 can't compete - it is classless. At the end of the day, its an overpowered machine that hasn't even reached its potentional, while housing features like a Blue Ray drive that you're never going to get full use out of, and a tacky controller to try and compete with the Wii's motion sensor.

The Wii meanwhile was designed purely for gaming. Switch it on via the remote, and in seconds your away. The remote connects via 2 ways - The Bluetooth allows the axis and button information to be sent to the console, while a sensor on the top allows you to point on screen.

Once the Wii has powered up, you're presented with the Wii Menu - a simple way of presenting all the features of the console in a 'TV' style way - each 'channel' being piece of software.

On a graphical basis, their have so far been an array of games that graphically, are stunning, though it should be said that quite rightly, not all games focus purely on fancy looks. Excite Truck is one, when even while your driving at super-fast speeds, you can still see miles, and miles, and miles away a gorgeous landscape, or the incredible water ripples and reflection in puddles and rivers. What about Resident Evil 4? The graphics almost compare to that of the Xbox 360's, with stunning facial emotions and incredible physics. Nintendo's first games, like Wii Sports, were not designed to meat this level. They're just games to demonstrate that the Wii offers more than predictable fancy graphics. But certain people just can't accept this.

Once your up on running on the net, another window opens for opportunities, whether you want to surf a Google Earth style weather program, or browse the news across the world on a 3-D globe, or go on the internet channel - perfect for watching You Tube on the big downstairs TV! Or why not download classic games from 3.50? And its all wireless and free with a wi-fi dongle that could cost as little as 8 pounds off ebay. You also have the option of WiiConnect 24 - a mode in which your console is constantly connected to the net, allowing updates to be downloaded while the console is off, signalled by a beautiful blue glow over the disc slot.

Noise levels? Silent. Well, only a whisper quiet fan if your playing at night, but unlike other consoles in the past, this is a cool and quiet console, and pretty much reflects its personality - its not pumping out power. Its just staying at its own level...

And looks? I would say this is the best looking console of this generation. You can only say this when you hold it though - its shiny smooth surface that's clean white looks so modern on a glass TV stand, and looks even better in its horizontal position. What's more, it takes up no room, unlike the 360 and PS3. And how cool is the blue light on the console? That's just inspired, made even better when you could be watching TV and then suddenly, it gradually lights up.

The fact that the Wii applys to such a broad age group makes it the most appealing game console ever made. You can download all your old favourite games and bring back memories with the family from when even you were younger! (Not a good idea with Donkey Kong Country, because their a still some levels that are simply impossible!) and with the current software, their is every genre going. But what makes this more attractive is that the games are cheap, from as little as 17.95! Their is simply no excuse not to treat yourself to a fun and educational game such as Endless Ocean.

I could go on, but I wouldn't be able to stop. Bad points? Only 1 little niggle - To play Gamecube games, you need to remove the flaps on the top of the console - not handy if its in a tight space (i.e a TV stand)

I've been using video consoles for over a decade, but the Wii is currently the best console i've ever used. After owning it for 10 months, I can honestly say it represents the true meaning of next generation, while, in typical Nintendo fashion, setting more and more benchmarks, but for a rare time, in quite beautiful style. But whats so priceless is that their is now a catalogue of over 175 downloadable, since the NES, that allows me and many millions of people out their to relive all their past times. The Wii isn't just what's happening now. It's a celebration of what 'did' happen, and why we loved gaming in the first place. And all at just a fraction of the cost of the original consoles!  "Product - below expectations but seller service - just too good." 2009-08-02
By Navneet Singhal (UK)
The product is ok for small kids but graphics are not at all good. Even the control over remote are ok kind. If someone is buying that it is a cheap replacement of wii then it is not. But the service quality of seller is just amazing. They are eager to listen buyers concern & very quick delivery.

"Its fun but its not a Wii" 2008-12-26
By wheelie (scotland)
Fun for kids but the graphics are ancient and it doesn't sense your movements like on a Wii.The attachments don't do anything but at least it comes with plenty of controllers.

 "Replacement Cover Rocks" 2009-11-08
By GHF
Absolutely loved the product.

They have done a fantatsic job of the cover, and totally is better than the cardboard sleeve that came with the Wii Sports.

It looks better in the collection, and also protects the CD better.

My CD was looking worn with being dragged in and out of the cardboard sleeve, so this product totally saved the day.

Fantastic, and highly recommended to anyone who wants to have an proper box with a cover that looks so official.

Excellent idea, and works a treat.

"This is the truth of what the wii is really like:" 2009-06-15
By Anne
When we received the wii game we were very pleased with the overall package. But later on the months wii sport did become a bit boring. I personly didn't play the wii/wii sport but my children did. And after I asked them how the game was they said it was great as a first game but you will get bored of in the end. I did buy them other games but they forgot about wii sports. I would recommend wii sport but as a first game.

You refunded our money as you were investigating the supplier. Thanks for that - we got it cheaper elsewhere. I certainly think the supplier was overcharging and they certainly were in no danger of meeting your normal excellent service standards!!!!!!!

 "Nintendo Wii" 2009-11-18
By Mr. S. Watson (UK)
Wow...what a game! This console was my first 'serious' top 3 console ever. And I have to say I was blown away by the technology. No wires. No fiddly buttons, Just you and the game. However, the graphics are a bit poor and yes it doesn't have any HD, Blu-Ray or video cam or anything like that. But at the end of the day you don't need it. Because this console opens a new and exiting dimension to gaming. One of my favourite features is the Mii channel. This allowes you to make a cartoon version of yourself and celebrities. These Mii then feature in most games and it makes you feel like you are actully in the game itself. I recommend this to anyone who wants to buy the family a present that they can enjoy together.
